The Thomas House - Central City
Article used with permission by World Casino Directory, written by Lars Jones The Thomas House tours are provided by the house's owners, the Gilpin Historical Society. The house is a Greek revival style frame house built in 1874 and it was built around the entrance to a mine. From the outside or inside you can see what a middle class family lived like in the early days. The vice president of a local mercantile company and his wife, Bob and Marsha Thomas moved to Denver in 1917 and the house is furnished and decorated as if they have only run to town.
The family kept the house until 1987 until the Gilpin Historical Society purchased it in 1990. It had previously been run as a private museum for three years.
If you can, tour the
Coeur d'Alene Mine Shaft House on the same day - it's also given by the
Gilpin County Historical Society.
